All About Machine Tools
This book deals with everything connected with Machine Tools, which mearzs everything important during the manufacture of workpieces by machining. Also it deals with the Machine Tool itself and the tool reguired for it, about the machining operation and its physical principles. It deals with the manufacture of workpieces on the machine, with the measuring and testing of these parts, and with the calculation of the time needed for the manufacture. Thus, the book is intended for all those who are directly occupied with machine tools, but particularly for the apprentices of all metal-working trades, who are, however, not supposed to know all details about the machining operations, but they should have some working knowledge about machine tools, their design and performance. Above all, the machine tool fitters, whose field of activity predominantly comprises the assembling of machine tools and appliances, must be well acguainted with these machines and their ways of manufacture. Moreover, draftsmen or working students can, with the help of this book, make initial and close-to-practice acguaintance with the various tools and cutting methods. This book mainly covers the theory of manufacture and not the description of the skill itself, as the skill can only be acguired in the Workshop and by individual practising. Graphical means of representation have largely been utilised to make the subjects mentioned in this book easily understandable. 1. Asa rule, each page of the book comprises a closed up section. Thus, a good distinction and an easy orientation is guaranteed. 2 By use of various colours the respective technological subjects have been individually characterized. Thus, the subjects dealing with tools and with the machine are recognizable by the red colour. The subjects dealing with the manufacture of workpieces are indicated in blue and those of measuring and testing in yellow colours. These various technological subjects are connected with the machining operation, thus standing in immediate relation to the practice. On the other hand, the coherence and the connection of the individual subjects with each other are likewise to be found, in as much as, for instance, the inspection technigue — which means all pages marked yellow — can again be brought into a complete representation. 3. Of course, the colour is also used in the pictures and contributes substantially to illustration and clear understanding. In this way, the use of photos was not essential. The new manner of representation applied in this book can also contribute to a livelier arrangement of lessons:in technical schools. Particularly, by an expedient use of this technical handbook during lessons substantial advantages can be achieved.
